Overview

Cryptomator is a free tool that encrypts your files before you upload them to cloud storage

services like Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. This means even if someone hacks your cloud storage account, they can't read your files because they're encrypted. Cryptomator works by creating encrypted "vaults" - special folders that look normal to your cloud service, but all the files inside are encrypted. When you save a file to a Cryptomator vault, it gets encrypted on your computer before being uploaded. When you open a file, Cryptomator decrypts it automatically. Your cloud storage provider never sees your unencrypted files. Cryptomator uses strong encryption and your encryption key is derived from your password on your device, so Cryptomator itself can't access your files. The application is free for desktop use and works with any cloud storage service. Cryptomator is open source, so security experts can verify it's secure.
