Cryptee uses client-side where keys are derived from user passwords on the client device. All documents and files are encrypted using AES-256 before being uploaded to Cryptee servers. The master key is derived from the user password using PBKDF2 key derivation. keys never leave the user device - all and decryption happens in the browser or mobile app. Cryptee cannot decrypt user content as it does not have access to keys. The service supports password recovery through encrypted keys.
