Overview

Lemmy is a decentralized

discussion platform that gives you control over your discussions and data. Unlike Reddit, Lemmy isn't owned by one company - instead, it's made up of independent servers (called instances) that can talk to each other. You choose which server to join based on its community rules, or you can host your own server for complete control. Lemmy has no ads, no tracking, and no algorithms manipulating what you see. Instances can be set to private, restricting access to registered users only, or public. Lemmy includes features like communities (similar to subreddits), posts, comments, voting, and private messaging. You can delete your account and all your content at any time. However, it's important to know that private messages are not end-to-end encrypted, so server administrators can see them. Lemmy is open source, meaning anyone can check the code, and it's maintained by an active community. The platform is free to use and works in your web browser or through mobile apps.
